‘Gradual Freedom’ – Music Performance

July 14

Gradual Freedom

Composed and Performed by Adam

“You are listening to a piece of solo Piano music. It is a gentle, relaxing and atmospheric piece. It captures the feeling of slowly coming out of the mental and physical lockdown and slowly being able to breathe in the fresh air and meet people in person again.

Before I started composing the music, I started to think about the current situation, which was that we were slowly coming out of the COVID-19 lockdown and that there was a sense of light at the end of the tunnel. I therefore decided to compose some music to enhance the atmosphere of slowly coming out of lockdown. As I wanted to compose an atmospheric piece of music, I decided to listen to music by other composers in order to get some inspiration. I listened to music by composers such as Enya, the band 2002 and Mike Oldfield.

After thinking about the current situation and gaining inspiration from other composers mentioned above, I started to improvise melodies and chord progressions on the Piano in order to see what I felt was suitable for my brief. I kept on trying things out while improvising until I found melodies and chord progressions that I felt was suitable.

I feel that there is a sense of relief when I am listening to the music. I feel that things may eventually go back to some sort of normality. That is what I was feeling when I was in the process of composing the music. When listening to the music, I hope that the listeners get to feel the sense of relief of slowly coming out of lockdown and that the future feels a bit more promising” – Adam
