Aims
- A pupil-led ‘Detective’ team instigate behaviour change in their school, through exploring energy wastage and then encouraging the wider school to reduce it
- The whole school community develops awareness of their carbon footprint and realise they can easily reduce it
- The school makes a pledge for actions to reduce their energy usage
- The school will develop an action plan to ensure the pledge is acted upon
- The project supports the Sustainable Schools doorways of Energy and Water, and Inclusion and Participation
Resources provided
- A Teachers’ Resource pack, including 7 engaging lesson plans (in which the new pupil Detectives investigate the case of energy usage through counting pcs, lights & appliances, and interviewing key people such as Heads, caretakers, etc)
- A post-show drama workshop with the actors (on the same day) for up to 16 members of the School Council or Eco Group – including the allocated teacher who is going to work with them further (i.e. their ‘Sergeant’).
- A return visit from the Carbon Footprint Detective Agency’s Chief who examines the facts turned up by the pupil Detectives – and rehearses the group, so they can present an exciting assembly to a large KS2 school group.
- Suggestions and advice on any extra measures needed in school – to help reduce the school’s carbon footprint and substantially lower its power bill.
