My Placement at Face Front
Hello, my name is Lauren and I am currently on placement with Face Front Inclusive Theatre.
I am in my third year at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama where I study BA: Drama, Applied Theatre and Education. So far the course has allowed me to perform, direct and devise theatre that takes place outside of a traditional theatre environment. This term I’m excited to put the skills I’ve developed over the past two years into action within a professional environment as well as learn additional skills from the Face Front team!
I am on placement four days a week; where I am fortunate enough to experience different aspects of Face Front’s work. This experience has enabled me to gain an holistic understanding of the company, shedding light on how a small charity runs in the heart of the Enfield community!
So far I have seen and supported the Theatre In Education (TIE) touring production ‘It’s my Move’ which explores students transitioning from secondary education. Through this experience I have gained understanding about practicalities involved in touring as well as witness how empowering Forum theatre can be within a school setting. The show is often followed by a workshop which allows students to further engage with the themes and emotions form the performance.
In addition I support the following Face Front groups: Broken Silence, DDM, InterAction, Blue Sky Actors, Stratford Circus’ creative clubs and lastly Stratford Circus’ Youth Theatre. The groups cover a wide group of ages ranging from 2- 93! Within each of these groups I have been able to support individuals, build relationships and develop my facilitation style and adapt my practice to meet participants’ additional needs. I am also being provided opportunities to lead facilitation, I’m excited to gain more experience in this over the coming weeks!
As well as acting as a facilitation support I have also been given a variety of arts administration tasks to assist with the daily running of Face Front. This involves digitising Face Fronts participants consent forms, drafting a letter to a potential patron and designing the Christmas panto’s programme!
Despite only starting a couple weeks ago I have felt so welcomed within the Face Front team and I’m looking forward to what the next two months have in store for me!
